Title 1 - Voting
Requires that voter registration requirements are the same for everyone. Title 1 provided a framework for equal access to voting, but did not ensure it, since discriminatory tactics such as poll taxes and literacy tests were not prohibited - as long as they were equally administered. For more on this refer to the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
Title 2 - Places of public accomodation
Prohibits discrimination in businesses such as hotels, restaurants, and theaters. Clubs considered "private" are exempt.
Title 3 - Public facilities
Prohibits state and municipal governments from discriminating access to public facilities.

Prohibits a company from refusing to hire someone based on their race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. It also prohibits restricting opportunities for advancement based on those criteria.
