The bill typically is referred to as the TRAFFIC Relief Act (TRAFFIC is a loose acronym for Tax Relief And Fixthetrustfund For Infrastructure Certainty).

This bill provides long term funding for transportation projects

This bill would increase the tax per gallon of gasoline to ensure the Highway Trust Fund has enough money to pay for road and other transportation projects.

Increases would take place in each of the next four years...

o In 2016 the tax would be 22 cents per gallon
o In 2017 the tax would be 26 cents per gallon
o In 2018 the tax would be 30 cents per gallon
o In 2019 the tax would be 34 cents per gallon

After 2019 the tax would increase based on inflation.

The bill would make low-income tax credits permanent

The Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit both are scheduled to expire at the end of 2017.

This bill would make both of those tax credits permanent. It also would make it easier for working Americans to qualify for and claim the Earned Income Tax Credit, and would increase the Child Tax Credit based on the rate of inflation.
