Successful newer bill provides Authorization without privatization

On July 15, 2016, President Obama signed the FAA Extension, Safety, and Security Act, which extended FAA funding through the end of the 2017 fiscal year (Sept. 30, 2017).

The bill did not contain any provisions for privatizing Air Traffic Control, so it is expected to remain off the table until at least discussions for the next extension take place.

The AIRR Act would have have privatized Air Traffic Control

The Aviation Reform, Innovation, and Reauthorization (AIRR) Act) was considered to be must-pass bill because funding for the FAA (including air traffic control functions) would have ended on March 31, 2016 without it.

Congress extended FAA funding through July 15 in order to provide more time to pass the AIRR Act. President Obama signed the short-term extension.
